Surfaces in highly frequented areas, such as door openers or handles in public transport, door handles in doctors' surgeries or PIN pads at ATMs can enable the transmission and spread of viruses or bacteria. The goal of the EU-funded STOP (Surface Transfer of Pathogens) project consortium is to develop nanocoatings for surfaces that can effectively limit these transmission routes in the future. Within the framework of the project, various active substances are being developed that enable highly flexible and durable coatings, possess a broad spectrum of antiviral and antimicrobial properties and prevent the development of resistance. The scope of the position advertised here is dedicated to the efficacy testing of the new, antimicrobial materials, the potential development of resistance and project coordination.
Your responsibilities include:
Scientific implementation of the STOP: ‘Surface Transfer of Pathogens’ project
Determining the susceptibility of bacteria to novel biocidal surfaces
Planning, conducting, and evaluating experiments to determine the development of resistance in bacteria on biocidal surfaces
Supporting the coordination of an international scientific project with 15 project partners
Writing scientific publications and project reports. Presenting the results at scientific conferences
Your qualifications:
Completed scientific university studies (diploma/master's degree) in the field of biology or comparable

Practical experience in planning, conducting, and analysing evolution experiments and competition experiments with microorganisms
Practical experience in conducting and analysing genome sequencing of evolved bacteria
Practical experience in the genetic modification of bacteria is an advantage
